Hi its nice to meet fellow donkey lovers...i have applied to join the group..just waiting for the ok:) I train dogs, cats and mini ponies with the clicker method..all positive and just this January i bought my first donkey...he is a 7mth old brown boy...not very trusting to start with (ran away from everyone) he has very soon learnt to start trusting me. For those of you interested in seeing him and watching his progression i have posted vids on my you tube site. here he is: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PMxqshkDgcand there is much more if you follow that link onto my you tube channel. loving working the donk:))

hi thanks yvonne & anvil donks.
Yvonne his hair is starting to grow back..he came like that and i asked our vet to run tests...he was full of lice but nothing else untoward came out of the tests they ran. am begining to wonder wether he has a blocked tear duct as often it is weeping and i am wiping it...once i get him happy walking out will walk him down to the vets and save the £40 call out charge...they will flush them out there. am just monitoring it at mo still.
@ haha anvildonks you got it right...its yorkshire!! can be cool but a gorgeous place to live:))

Thank you all! I have lots and lots of good and funny pictures of my boys. They are so sweet and well behaved but they didn't come to me that way. Rescues always seem to be wild at first but when they see how well they're now treated, they settle down fast.

Winston is 20 and we've had him all his life. The missus found him tied to a tree and put him in the back of the car. Simpson is 8 and we've had him a year. We got him after our oldest (Number 7, named after the mule in Grizzly Adams, even though he was a donkey) died of colic last year. He was over 30 and had years of neglect before we got him. We feed a further 14 donkeys at a rescue down the road when we have spare hay. We want a lot more but we need the finances for that. I put my name here as Simpson because he's mine and Winston belongs to the missus who will be joining this forum shortly under the name Winston.

What an awful thing to do,leaving a donk tied to a tree What a good job your wife found him! I'm sorry to hear that you lost your oldest donk to colic,it's terrible to see isn't it You must get through an awful lot of hay, feeding 14 donks that are not even yours! They must all stand & watch out for you coming Where abouts do you live? I'm looking forwards to meeting your missus! Don't forget the photos!

Ha, ha, funny you should say that about waiting for hay! They seem to gather on the weekends when we have a pick-up full of hay driving by. Last time I got there, it was eee, eee, aw, aw, eee. They count the moons until we kick in our bit. Hard, though. We're in Africa.

I think I'm not the only one experiencing difficulties with uploading photos. Get back to you when I've figured out this Photobucket thing...
