As I am sure you are all aware, since "uograding"! to BETA, the Forum looks blue and bland and boring if you are not logged in. To encourage more users, I am thinking of making it visible. I appreciate however that certain things we do want to keep private. I am therefore putting up a Poll, so that you can tell me what you like or will accept for this forum.
A - keep it exactly as it is. B - Open it all up so it is all viewable by Joe Public C - Attempt to open it with some sections only viewable when logged in.. This would probably be Photos Galleries and General Chat.
Please vote. There is no need to post but any comments and/or suggestions will be taken into consideration and discussed by Admin in our cosy Office

Anyone really interested in the Forum should join. Otherwise I don't care if they see everything or not.

I used to come to the forum more when I could see new replies without having to login. How I have to login just to see the forum. I think we should keep some parts closed but keep other parts open like training/health so people just stopping by can browse how to train donkeys or donkey health problems without having to create an account.

I don't have to log in when I come back.
Looks so far as if we are getting a very clear answer. Sadly we cannot please every member, it must be majority vote.

The only thing that does concern me is the wording of answer three; "attempt" to limit some sections. In my opinion unless you can definitely limit certain sections, then unfortunately I would change my opinion and keep it completely private. I would not be happy if just anyone could cruise through this Forum, looking at our photographs and listening to our personal chatter. Surely the main reason for joining a "Donkey Forum" is just that, learning, chatting, swapping stories about donkeys. I feel that the other "threads" are a bonus for being a member of this board. I would ask, what is the main reason for this Forum?
Surely quality over quantity is better than just having a forum with hundreds of members, what is the point of that? Or, maybe one of the rules of running a pro-board like this is that the numbers must be seen to be increasing? In my opinion this Forum, because of the quality of members, is reasonably lively. We all live very different and sometimes busy lives, not many of us have the time to be on the Forum constantly, which means that at times we are quiet. That is not a bad thing? Or, maybe I have completely missed the point? If I have then I am sure things will be made clearer to me?

I agree with you BL. I deleted some of my pics last night for the reasons you stated.

If we are looking for a majority vote, how long are you going to allow for everyone to take part? We do have lots of members as we stand now, but, some of them are not on every day, nor do they need to be? The clear answer you are getting up to now involves only about nine of our members - so far! I voted for limited opening, I think the previous set up of the forum was like that? Provided you CAN limit the viewing of non-members then that is fine, but I am not happy unless it IS limited. Can you take me off the vote up to now, please, if not then I will cope?

The Poll is open for two weeks. If I cannot block most Topics then the board will remain as it is, hence the word "attempt"

Hello Ruth, I am aware of the meaning of the word "attempt", but am happy now that you have clarified my questions. Thank you.

I apologise for my lack of clarity. Whilst we remain a private forum,we are also virtually impossible to find.

And it was the ONLY forum...most of the others I found were specifically for Mini donks so I was excited to find one for ALL donkeys!

OK, we have had over two weeks to vote and the result shows a preference for some open and some blocked sections. I will spend time on Friday altering and testing so please bear with me if you find problems whilst I do this. I will ask for opinions/desires when done. In the meantime, which sections do you wish to remain private? Both photo galleries and general chat is my current intentions for blocking.

I think the following should be kept private:
In Loving Memory Both Photo Galleries Poetry Dogs, Cats and Other Animals General Chat Get It Off Your Chest
which still leaves plenty of topics as Public.

Because to some the poetry they post has a personal meaning - why would the WWW need to see our musings?

Hopefully this Forum is now set up. Please let me know any problems or changes that need to be looked at. This section (Website Suggestions and Feedback) is open to non-members to post.

I panicked for a minute or two when I came here and I was told that I didn't have access to the boards...umm..until I realized I forgot to log in. Sheesh! Everything seems to be running normal for me.
