Hi All
I just wanted to let all know that we had an unexpected foaling with an new donkey who we didn't know was in foal when we got her (neither did her previous owners who said she must have been pregnant when they got her). My Dad got Ginny and her half brother Jack lad at Easter from a nice lady who's grandchildren weren't interested any more. She was 2 years old and right until the last minute we weren't sure 100% she was pregnant, as soon as we suspected she was in labour we called the equine vet. Without going in to the whole hideous tale it was two of the most traumatic days of my life. In the end Ginny lost her life but amazingly we pulled a beautiful enormous filly foal out who inspite of having the most traumatic birth was up and standing within half an hour - our beautiful little ball of fluff - Little Ginny.
With the support of the donkey sanctuary and the national foaling bank, family and friends we have managed to get her to 3 months old last sunday!
We got an aunty for her from the seaside. Aunty Dolly, to teach her what it is to be a donkey and not a little human who liked to go in to the kitchen with my dad and follow him everywhere. Eventually Jack rejoined when Ginny was big enough to get out of the way. Luckily he loves Ginny and she loves him. They are utterly divoted to each other. He had to live alone for a couple of months which was hard on him.But now her's back with the herd and all is well.
I wanted to share this so that if anyone else was in the same boat they don't feel alone.
if anyone wants to get in touch, feel free.
