There is a donkey show this weekend at Parnac (Dept 46, Lot) which is not far from you Jellyhead! We are planning on going on the Sunday (I think it is because the World Cup will be on for the next three weeks, he's trying to earn Brownie Points! ) It is particularly interesting if you want to do driving. Just tell them you are taking them for a surprise mystery tour - and end up at the donkey show ;D

If you drop them off in Cahors they can take a river trip then look round the old town which is fab. Tell them you'll pick them up in time to go for dinner!

That's a great way to do it, Fou! Just tell them you have a prior commitment at the Donkey Show and if that doesn't sound interesting to them you'll be happy to drop them at that Arc or the Bastille or a burlesque or something else touristy and pick 'em up later !
O, P.S.: Don't forget your camera for your pal Kelly!!!! ;D

>:(We saw lots of donkeys taking part in a timed cross country course of 3.5 kms. We were at the Start/Finish area and they disappeared off through the vineyards! Most of them seem to do the course in about 18-20 mins, I don't know if that is good or not? We couldn't see the whole course but I think some of it was quite hilly, and at the end they had to get the vehicle within an area marked by cones and stand for about 30 seconds. This afternoon there was going to be a manoeuvrability test, but the black clouds were rolling in so we decided to come home as it was a 2 hour drive - and sure enough we had a deluge and thunder/lightening on the way back. We've had awful storms on and off all last week, the place is very soggy! There are some photos here: s75.photobucket.com/albums/i312/Bouillaguet/Donkey%20Driving/

Thankyou for posting the photos. It looks like a great day, and I hope you enjoyed your time there.
Some very nice donkeys there, and how lovely to see several pairs driving.

Ruth, there were as many, if not more, pairs than singles. There was one guy who presumably doesn't have much money and his harness was 'cobbled together' with bits of baler twine and all sorts, one 'rein' was a piece of rope and the other was blue baler twine but it was lovely to see that the organisers treated him just like all the other 'smarter' competitors. It took him a while to complete the course and his little donkey came plodding home at the end rather than a last sprint finish that some of the others were doing. All credit to him that he was letting it go at it's own pace!

Thankyou for the photos. Interesting to see ones without blinkers.

lol, doesn't surprise me to hear of the baler twined harness, typical I think of the laid back attitude of the french. It must have been wonderful to see mainly pairs, they are rarely seen in the UK.
I didn't particularly notice the lack of blinkers irishdonks, well spotted. I suppose because it is what I am used to. As you know, none of my girls wear them, even driving as pairs.

He might be at the next one we're going to on the 4th July - do you think he'll fit in the back of the estate car if we put the seats down?
