The Donkey Fete at Pompadour seems to be changing :
Book a Day in Pompadour’
Thursday 14th July
2011 Fête Nationale
Entrance 3€
Once again it will shortly be the 14th July, known to the British as Bastille Day but to the people of Pompadour it is a day when donkeys come to town. Each year, and this will be the 15th time, the Association of Réunir au Pays from St Sornin Lavolps, has organised a Fête.
This year the format has changed. The morning will be devoted to a walk for those who wish to participate. After a casse-croute, the walkers will leave at 10:00 hr taking a route around the Pompadour area starting and ending in the Hippodrome.
From 12:30 there will be a giant picnic with vendors of all sorts of food and drink. You can bring your own, your barbecue if you wish, or buy everything in the grounds.
Many of the traditional aspects of la fête will be present with a variety of exhibitors. Of course there will be donkeys but the focus has moved away from them.
During the afternoon there will be country dancing, displays of hunting with dogs, horses and horns, donkey races, and bandas. It will be party-time!!
Around 17:00 hr there will be a two hour open-air concert of Nicholas Farres and Co who are internationally known and very popular in France. (www.nicholasfarres.fr or www.myspace.com/nicholasfarresweb )
In the evening there is the very popular dinner, and reservations in advance are highly recommended. The meal is served in the restaurant above the Racecourse and from there you get a view of the wonderful château, and at dusk, the annual spectacular firework display. The evening will be enlivened, to say the least, by the Objat Banda.
A four course menu, a kir, wine, coffee, and entertainment: all for 25€!!
General Information: Réunir au Pays: www.reunir-au-pays.com
To book tables for the evening : Tel: Christian Moy, 0672 90 93 28
I'm not sure this will be quite what we are all hoping for . However, the Donkey Fete at Seilhac is also on that day, and growing bigger every year due to the people who are no longer interested in the above day at Pompadour.
